These are the walks that aren’t really hikes but are still well worth doing for the amazing view or some other feature along the way.
Allow 40mins – 1 hour to climb one way.
On the road to Whangerai Heads this track climbs through bush to a great look out and lump of rock at 420m above sea level. The track is popular with locals for good exercise. Trainers or walking shoes are fine – but do expect a steep climb towards the end.
Track Entrance: 2145 Whangarei Heads Road, Drive way is shared with Mount Manaia Club, you are looking for the car park at the end.

This track is Managed by the Department of Conservation, it has a no dogs status.
Approx 5km Return
Track is well made and heads up over the ridge and down to the coast in the Bream head marine reserve. Trainers and walking shoes are fine.. expect a bit of climbing on return.
Track Entrance: 2.06 Km past the intersection of Capey Lane and Ocean Beach Road, heading to Ocean Beach. Department of Conservation sign on right hand side – track starts at end of little side road.
